- The Ford F-150 and Chevy Silverado each offer standard turbocharged 2.7-liter engines. The F-150's V-6 (325 hp, 400 lb-ft) can pull up to 10,100 pounds, while the Silverado's four-cylinder (310 hp, 420 lb-ft) is limited to 9,500 pounds.
- Ford's legendary 5.0L V-8 was recently re-tuned for 400 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque, increasing its max tow rating to 13,000 pounds - 1,700 more than Chevy's 5.3L V-8 (355 hp, 383 lb-ft), which tops out at 11,300 pounds).
- For maximum towing capability, Ford F-150 models equipped with a 3.5L EcoBoost® V-6 (400 hp, 500 lb-ft) have a max trailer rating of 14,000 pounds, higher than any class competitor. The Silverado's 6.2-liter V-8 (420 hp, 460 lb-ft) comes up shy with a max 13,300-pound tow rating.
- Both models provide fuel-saving options to accommodate drivers who regularly tow heavy loads and want something more efficient. The F-150 PowerBoost turbo-V6 is the segment's first full-hybrid model, producing 430 hp/570 lb-ft for a max tow rating of 12,700 pounds. The Silverado offers a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel (305 hp, 495 lb-ft) with a 13,300-pound max tow rating.).
Do your truck-related needs lean more toward payload than trailering? The Ford F-150 can be configured to carry up to 3,310 pounds, exceeding the Silverado's most capable configuration (2,260) by more than 1,000 pounds.

Both models offer an assortment of tech features for a more confined and convenient towing experience, including helpful trailering apps, surround-view camera systems, and extended blind-spot coverage. However, Pro Trailer Backup Assist is exclusive to the Ford F-150, making reversing with a trailer as easy as turning a dial.
Ford also offers Pro Power OnBoard, turning the F-150 into a mobile generator with 2.0 - 7.2 kW of power through four or six outlets. It's a great complement for many situations, from job sites to tailgate parties, and isn't available in the Silverado.

While the F-150 and Silverado each offer extensive equipment options, the Ford makes many desirable amenities more accessible at lower trim levels. For example, the mid-tier Lariat model includes power-adjustable front seats with heating and cooling, leather upholstery, power-folding side mirrors, and LED exterior lighting. The Silverado limits these features to higher grades, reserving some for the penultimate LTZ tier.
The F-150 also offers several amenities you won't find on Silverado's roster, including massage functionality, "Max Recline" front seats, seats, an interior work surface, an integrated cargo scale, and a twin-panel moonroof.
