The New Ford Escape in Huntsville, TX

East Texas is an Adventure in the Capable New Ford Escape

There are everyday compact SUVs, and then there are definitions of what they should be. The latest Ford Escape and the benchmark it sets for the small crossover segment fall squarely in the second camp. Back for a new model year, it's loaded not only with the proven performance features and leading-edge safety technologies you've come to expect from a new Ford SUV. It's also just as strikingly stylish, cargo-friendly, and creature-comfortable. So, how does the new Escape set an equally new bar for the eastern Texas drive? We've made it easy to see for yourself, right here at Bill Fick Ford in Huntsville!

Step into the driver's seat. You'll find a spacious 98.7-cubic-foot cabin spreads out under the pleasant accent of an optional Panoramic Vista Roof®. The interior's plenty inviting for the trip, too, with power-adjustable, heated front seating available, not to mention optional electronic automatic temperature control for two zones. Behind, with rear seats folded, you'll be able to take advantage of a sizable cargo hold measuring up to 68.0 cubic feet, a boon for anything from office supplies for the weekly commute to luggage and camping gear for a weekend getaway. You can even access it using an optional hands-free liftgate, which activates with a gesture. Now, bring a roof rack and side rails with optional crossbars into the equation. Consider the ability to tow anywhere from 2,000 to 3,500 pounds when equipped with an available Class II hitch receiver. It's plain to see: Escape also makes it easy to bring anything from a light towable tent camper to an ATV along for the ride.

You'll also find your cockpit's a command center. That owes to a choice of either a 4.2-inch SYNC® infotainment system or its optional 8.0-inch SYNC 3 sibling, each putting entertainment and settings control at your fingertips. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available for connecting a smartphone, as is 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot support via SYNC Connect for doing so to the Internet. Factor in the ease of finding your way afforded by optional voice-activated navigation and either a six- or available 10-speaker audio system, the latter from Sony, and it's a breeze to get there with your favorite road mix as a travel soundtrack.

Now, start the engine. Depending on trim, you can enjoy a choice among three. Ford Escape S, for instance, is anything but entry-level, with a 168-horsepower, 2.5-liter iVCT inline-four that balances power and economy. Its standard six-speed SelectShift® auto transmission helps achieve excellent fuel efficiency, too; the crossover can get up to 21 mpg in a city like Willis, TX, 29 mpg down the highway to Navasota, and 24 mpg combined between Montgomery and the Texas wide-open beyond, according to EPA estimates. Choose Ford Escape SE or SEL, and you get a bump in power, to a 179-horsepower, 1.5-liter EcoBoost® four-cylinder, which features Auto Start-Stop Technology to help make the best of fuel. It shows here, as well: both trims can get up to an EPA-estimated 23 city mpg, 30 highway mpg, and 26 combined mpg. Escape Titanium heads into high-octane territory, with a 245-horsepower, 2.0-liter EcoBoost I4 shelling 275 pound-feet of torque sure to deliver on adrenalized thrills.

Of course, like any new Ford crossover, Escape is also one of the safer bets out there, with passive security systems like AdvanceTrac® with RSC® (Roll Stability Control&#trade;) and Curve Control balanced by active tech like optional intelligent 4WD. You can even get the situational awareness of a boatload of smart driver-assist features with an optional Ford Safe and Smart&#trade; Package, not to mention those like enhanced active park assist and forward, side, and reverse sensing systems. The latter makes slipping into place at your destination a matter of course.
